7 steps to reset your life. So, does your life feel a little off-track lately? Believe it or not, it happens to all of us as we navigate life. Trying to figure out how to get back on track can be difficult. Just getting started seems overwhelming to so many of us. However, here are some steps you can take to align yourself with your core values and get things back to normal again. Get started now! There is not time to waste and I hope the following guide that I use will guide you as well. Here are 7 steps to reset your life.
# 1 – Be Aware
The first step to fixing any problem or challenging situation is to first recognize that you have a problem or challenge. Take some time to write down any thoughts or words that describe the problem or situation you have. If you journal, make it part of your daily journaling focus. If you don’t journal daily, maybe this is a good time to start. So, journaling isn’t your thing? That’s ok. Just grab a piece of paper and a pen and start writing down what comes to mind. This is called a “brain dump”. It gets all the thoughts out of your head and down on paper so you can physically see them. The goal is to feel better after you have all the thoughts out of your head and on paper. Then, you can begin to deal with the things on the list you created.
# 2 – Vacate The Normal
Now that you have acknowledged and identified your problem take a little time to yourself. Think about it, but don’t dwell on it. If you can go on vacation, then do so. If you can’t go on vacation, find another way to relax and restore your mind and body. Maybe you could set up a weekend to get a haircut and pedicure. Perhaps, you could read books and magazines for entertainment and stay in all weekend. Also, you could take an extended weekend and do whatever involves just taking care of you and “vacating” your normal routine. The point is to give yourself permission to relax and restore. When you take care of you and remove yourself from a troubling situation…often your mind will arrive at the answers you need.
#3 – Review You
It is very important to have a clear view of what is important to you and the life you want. Get your journal back out and describe your ideal life by writing it down in detail. Write what car you will drive in this life. Also, write down where you live, what your career is, what you do each day, who you interact with and what you wear. Be as specific as possible. Do not write this in the third person. Write these details down as if they are happening in your life right now. Nothing is whimsical here… allow yourself to dream. Go on, dream big if you want to.
#4 – Clear Your Path
Clear your path in life by cleaning and clearing your surroundings. I like to clean and clear a path whenever I have something bothering me that weighs heavily on my mind or to refresh and start again. In addition, I don’t just clean my home, desk, office, etc. I also clean my car. That’s right! My car gets a good cleaning too. Don’t forget your technology. Clean out old files, inboxes for email addresses, delete unused apps and social media accounts, etc. It is truly amazing what a difference “cleaning and clearing a path” can make. It physically and psychologically helps you “zero” in on what matters each day.
#5 – Reinvent You
So, be honest. Did you stop exercising because your routine was getting really dull? Create a new one that’s more exciting to you. Have you picked up some unhealthy habits this year? Then, flip the script. Replace the unhealthy habits with healthy ones. Look in the mirror. Would a new hairstyle lift your mood and outlook? Get one. What about a bright new scarf or a new shade of lipstick? Anything that helps you reinvent you and uplifts your outlook on your life is a welcome. Sometimes you just need to reinvent yourself and your life to get back in the game!
#6 – Shake It Up
Speaking of routines, when was the last time you changed the routine things you do everyday. Your morning and evening routines can become mundane and lackluster if you do them for too long.
The best way to change your life is to change what you do on a daily basis. Take a good, hard look at your morning and evening routines. Do they contribute to the sort of life you want? Maybe they worked at one time, but not anymore. Or maybe you don’t have anything that can legitimately be called routines and you need to establish a morning and evening routine. It’s easy to create a new routine and implement it immediately.
#7 – Develop You
Make certain you spend enough time each week on personal development. This is an important part of self care that is often overlooked. When was the last time you read a book or magazine instead of relying on social media for information or entertainment? When I pick up a book or magazine these days, I want to read about something that will help me improve myself. It might be I am interested in learning about Yellowstone National Park and all the wildlife that can be found there. I may want to learn how be a better time manager. This is personal development. Time spent developing you, is time well-spent. Now you have 7 steps to reset your life.
